June 2011 Newsletter

Hi Everyone

Well it's Winter Time again - hard to believe that we are now half way through the year! We would love to share what's been happening on the farm over the last few months so sit back, relax and enjoy our news.

The weather has been a mixed Season for everyone throughout NZ. We have enjoyed some great weather since January (occasionally...) and some not so great weather as well.

This year we were at the Taieri Show in January for the first time. We have been delivering our meat now for over a year in Dunedin/Mosgiel with Free Delivery and we welcome all our new and existing customers in these areas. The Show was an excellent day to demonstrate our product range and introduce customers to buying Quality Meat 'In Bulk' Direct from the Farmer.

Congratulations to Carole Stevenson of Mosgiel who won the Lamb Pack in our Win A Lamb Pack Competition. We will be back again next year at the Taieri Show so mark your diaries for January and come and visit our site if you are in the area.

We were in Wanaka in March at the Upper Clutha Show catching up with new and existing customers. We continue to be amazed at the great word of mouth advertisers that our customers are, passing on our details to their friends and families - a huge thank you to everyone who does this for us.

Congratulations to our 2 Winners of Win A Lamb Packs (picked from over 1000 entries!!) Robyn Mercer of Wanaka and David Cook of Ashburton

We were again in the NZ Beef and Lamb Glammies Competition as finalists with our Lamb which is held at the Upper Clutha Show. We were placed 4th in our section which is a great achievement out of 16 Finalists. We had our meat showcased on the Friday on TV One Breakfast so that was exciting.

In November 2010 our Farm hosted ASDA Supermarket Chains head Meat Buyer as well as other representatives from Meat Companies throughout the UK. ASDA is one of the 4 large Supermarket Chains. The purpose of their visit was to source NZ Lamb from Alliance Meat Company (who our Farm supplies a large portion of our lambs to) for the UK market. We enjoyed hosting them and giving them a farm tour. As a result of this we were offered a trip to the UK sponsored by ASDA and Meat Companies to see how NZ Lamb ends up on the UK Supermarket Shelves from Farms all over NZ. As we type this we are sitting near Glasgow in Scotland enjoying a sunny day (one of a few!!)

Rachel, Mark & a UK lamb buyer

Highlights of the trip include:

Visiting Abattoirs,
Tours of some massive Meat Packaging Plants,
Tours of Meat Sections of Supermarkets,
Understanding pricing structures,
Being made more aware of a huge
world shortage of lamb and beef products due to world
population increase,
Meeting the UK Consumer,
visiting the place our Farm is named after in Scotland ‘Glen Affric’

-------- oh and also watching the Barbarians beat the England Rugby Team at Twickenham!! (Some of the UK fans thought we were spying for the All Blacks Management Team)

A town in Wales - we couldn't pronounce this either!
